Not many are conversant with the non-graduate category of N-Power which includes the “N-Power Build”, N-Power Creative amongst others. N-Power Build is an accelerated training and certification (skills to job) programme that will engage and train 75,000 young, unemployed Nigerians in order to build a new crop of skilled and highly competent workforce of technicians, artisans, and service professionals. It seeks to bridge the shortfall of skilled service professionals in the automobile/construction sub-sector.
N-Power Build categories cut across different services which include automobile, carpentry& joinery, electrical installation, plumbing & pipe fitting, wielding & fabrication, masonry and painting & decoration. Successful 2016 applicants for the programme were recently shortlisted and will proceed for physical verification shortly.
While N-Power graduate category is a 2 year volunteer programme, N-Power Build is a 1 year programme. After physical verification, the beneficiaries will proceed to their training centres for a 3 month training after which they will be deployed for a 9 months apprenticeship with the programme’s partnering employer. It is a sort of Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme. Coupled with the training, beneficiaries will get training tools and consumables and will be paid N10,000 monthly stipend for the duration of the programme.
In tandem with the objectives of N-Power, it is expected that N-Power Build volunteers would have acquired lifelong skills through the duration of the programme to compete favourably in the informal sector of the economy and fill the gap created by dearth of skilled artisans. Ultimately, the volunteers will indeed become employers of Labour by bringing others under their tutelage and transferring knowledge.
N-Power is the Buhari Administration’s job creation and empowerment scheme.
